The 2012 Chevrolet Camaro hits the UK – as a Convertible or Coupe – with a 6.2 litre V8 and starts from £34,996.

There’s no substitute for cubic inches, or so American car lovers would have us believe. And if you share that sentiment you can now get yourself a Detroit Muscle car in the UK, with the launch of the Chevy Camaro Coupe and Convertible.

On offer is an iconic muscle car silhouette and 6.2 litres of American iron. It doesn’t kick out as many horses as you might expect a 6.2 litre V8 to deliver, but its still manages 426bhp if you opt for the manual ‘box (yep, a stick shift is standard on the UK Camaro) and 399bhp if you opt for an auto ‘box.

That translates to a 0-62mph for the coupe of 5.2/5.4 seconds (manual/auto) and 5.4/5.6 seconds in the Convertible with a limited top speed of 155mph. Not stunning, but enough to beat most hot hatches in to submission, at least on a straight bit of road.

Chevrolet are also offering a 45th Anniversary Model Camaro with the same 6.2 litre V8 and finished in Carbon Flash Black with red and silver anniversary stripes and extra kit, such as 20″ alloys, anniversary leather with red, white and blue stitching and a white instrument panel.

The standard Chevrolet Camaro Coupe will cost you £34.995 (plus £1500 for the Auto box) and the Camaro Convertible £39,995. Opt doe the 45th Anniversary edition and that’ll cost you £36,495 / £41,495.

Order books for the 2012 Chevrolet Camaro are now open, with first customer cars arriving in the UK in the Spring.
