2012 Chevrolet Corvette upgrades focus on track performance

To keep up on the track with the Vipers and Super Snakes of the world, Chevrolet has upgraded the Corvette for 2012.
There's no change to the engines or their output for 2012, but you will shave a few seconds off your lap times with the newly optional Michelin Pilot Sport Cup Zero Pressure tire.
Only offered on the Z06 and ZR1 models, the package includes the tires, 285/30-19 in front and 335/25-20 rear, and lightweight aluminum Cup-style wheels in satin black or machined finishes. They're lighter and stronger than last year's 20-spoke wheels. The same package adds a full-width racing spoiler and Brembo brakes on the Z06, which are standard on the ZR1.
The Performance Traction Management system is offered for the first time on the Z06 in 2012. The new system integrates traction control, active handling and selective ride-control systems to improve track characteristics.
The tire package combined with the traction-management package will give you an 8 percent gain in lateral acceleration, according to the company, to more than 1.1 g.
Corvette fans can get a look at the 2012 models, including the new Chevrolet Corvette Centennial Edition at a special event April 30-May 1 at the National Corvette Museum in Bowling Green, Ky. Production begins in July.
Other new options on the 2012 Corvette include:
-- Carbon-fiber hood for the Z06.
-- New seat and steering-wheel designs
-- Contrasting color stitching on the interior.
-- Nine-speaker Bose audio system (up from seven speakers).
-- A technology package for cars with the 2LT trim level. It adds Bluetooth, navigation, a head-up display and a USB port.
-- Brake calipers can be painted in red, yellow, silver or gray.
