2012 Infiniti M35 hybrid confirmed
Wed, 07 Oct 2009Infiniti confirmed on Wednesday that the M35 will include a hybrid version that arrives as a 2012 model.
That's about a year after the conventionally powered M35, which launches next spring as a 2011 model. It's the first hybrid in the 20-year history of Infiniti.
The powertrain will include an electric motor that works with a naturally aspirated 3.5-liter V6 engine. The electric motor works for propulsion and as a generator.
The car gets a “laminated” lithium-ion battery pack, and the lamination enhances cooling performance, Infiniti says.
The next-generation M sedan was revealed using virtual technology and foam blocks this summer at the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance. The car features striking new sheetmetal, with a long hood and flared fenders. Designers say it channels the Essence concept.
A diesel powerplant is on tap for Western Europe.
For an early preview, Nissan will display a hybrid version of the Fuga--a luxury sedan for the Japanese market--at the Tokyo auto show.
