2012 Jaguar Range - every one a gem

You’d have to have been living in a cave for the last couple of years not to know that Jaguar’s cars are now back at the top of the heap, and the 2012 Jaguar Range is probably the strongest line-up from Jaguar in a couple of generations.

Regular readers will already have seen all the tweaks and additions to the Jaguar XF, Jaguar XJ and Jaguar XK for 2012 here over the last few months, but there’ll be the chance to see the updates in the flesh from this weekend at Motorexpo at Canary Wharf.

The 2012 Jaguar XF – which debuted at New York in April – gets to look more like the concept on which it was based, the Jaguar C-XF Concept, which is a sure sign of the growing confidence at Jaguar.

The new look for the XF is more aggressive and yet more refined than the original car, and loses the whiff of Japanese-style corporate blandness in its design that was perhaps the only flaw in an otherwise brilliant car.

And Jaguar are aiming to mop up a chunk of fleet sales from BMW with the long-awaited – and regularly denied – launch of the 2.2 litre diesel XF.

On the 2012 Jaguar XK we see a refinement of the car cosmetically with a new nose and new headlights -similar to the new Jaguar XKR-S – and a set of LEDs out back with just the Jaguar ‘Leaper’ on display.

Inside the XK there are a few tweaks such as sculpted leather sports seats, some new finishes and a tweak or two around the HVAC controls. All very minor and not really enough to make the interior of the XK as contemporary as we would like to see it.

The newest car in the Jaguar range – the 2012 Jaguar XJ – gets just the modest addition of a rear seat comfort pack which throws in trick seats which recline, heat, cool, massage and have winged headrests (just like in the top end Range Rover – and surprisingly comfortable they are too).

We’re assuming the rear seat package for the XJ – which also includes foot rests and the ability to move the front seat passenger seat out of the way from the back seat – is only going to be available for the LWB XJ. There’s not enough room in the back of the regular XJ already, and adding that lot would make it usable only by the severely vertically challenged.

Moans about the back seats in the XJ apart, the 2012 Jaguar Range is practically perfect.
