2012 Porsche 911 Cabriolet – it’s video time
Sat, 26 Nov 20112012 Porsche 911 Cabriolet - now we get the Video
One of the busiest pages on Cars UK this week has been the news of the reveal of the 2012 Porsche 911 Cabriolet (and the 2012 911 Cabriolet photo gallery has been busy too), so when Porsche sent us video too we thought it was worth sharing. The new 911 Cabriolet is obviously rather popular.
For now, we have to be satisfied with the Carrera Cabriolet and Carrera S Cabriolet. Sales to the lovers of Porsche’s 4WD 911s will have to wait until late 2012 before we see the new 911 Carrera 4 and 911 Carrera 4S Cabriolets arrive.
But with the same engines as the 2011 911 – a 3.4 litre in the Carrera and a 3.8 litre in the Carrera S – and performance we expect to be within a gnats of the coupe, the new 911 Cabrio is an appealing prospect.
What makes it even more appealing is the new trick roof on the 911 Cabrio. Instead of being a canvas roof or folding metal creation, Porsche has come up with a middle ground, which seems very clever.
The centre section of the roof is actually a composite panel covered in fabric. Which means it has the traditional look of the Cabrio’s fabric roof, but the rigidity – at least on the top and back – from the composite panel means the Cabrio now has a roofline – when the roof is up – very similar to the 911 Coupe.
The new 911 Cabriolet is due to make its public debut at the Detroit Motor Show in January and goes on sale in March in the UK from £79, 947 for the 911 Carrera Cabriolet.
Until then, you’ll just have to make do with the new 911 Cabrio video.
