2012 Toyota Yaris: The UK stuff
Wed, 13 Jul 2011The 2012 Toyota Yaris - the UK details
We’ve been trailing the 2012 Toyota Yaris since the end of last year when Toyota in Japan unveiled the JDM Toyota Viz ( the Japanese version of the Yaris) and again a month ago with the unofficial Euro details.
But now Toyota UK has decided – especially as the 2012 Yaris is starting to roll off production lines in Europe from today – that they may as well make the new Yaris official, give us some details and let us know exactly how much a new Yaris will now cost.
The Yaris will come in four flavours of trim – T2, TR, SR and Spirit – although Toyota say that a full two thirds of sales are of the TR trim. Doesn’t that make you question if they’ve got the trim levels right and their dealers trained? T2, SR and T Spirit with just 10% each. Seems odd.
Still, we digress. The engines on offer are the petrol 1.0 litre VVT-i with 68bhp, the 1.33 litre Dual VVTi with 98bhp and the oil-burning 1.4 litre D-4D with 89bhp. Gearbox options are five-speed manual, six-speed manual and the rubber band Multidrive CVT.
The Yaris TR can be had with any of the engine or gearbox options and as a three or five door. Standard kit includes 15″ alloys, AirCon, and Toyota Touch.
The Yaris SR is the Sport Yaris and available only with the 1.33 litre Dual VVTi and sport interior and exterior trim. It gets 16″ alloys, roof spoiler, part leather and lowered suspension.
The Yaris T Spirit is the posh Yaris and gets five doors and the 1.33 litre Dual VVTi . It comes with a panoramic roof, Climate, auto lights and wipers and keyless.
And in case you think we’ve forgotten the Yaris T2, we haven’t. But Toyota choose not to say too much about it, so let’s just say it’s the 2012 Yaris for the budget-minded, with prices kicking off at £11,170.
On sale now with first deliveries in September, the 2012 Yaris should carry its loyal customer base forward with it.
And why not? It’s a decent enough little car.
