2012 Zafira Tourer revealed
Wed, 18 May 20112012 Vauxhall Zafira Tourer - pretty much the same as the concept
GM’s European arms of Vauxhall and Opel managed to tease us with the Zafira Tourer Concept back in February with a hologram of the new 7-seat Zafira hovering over the iPad of designer Mark Adams.
Which if we have to have new cars teased this was at least a thought-out and original way to go.
Fast forward a couple of weeks and we saw the Zafira Tourer Concept turning up at the Geneva Motor Show as a future big brother for the Zafira and potential competition for the Ford S-Max. But this was just a concept, wasn’t it? No chance.
As we said in February, the Zafira Tourer Concept looked pretty much production ready, and as the photos and video below show this production version of the Zafira Tourer looks very close to the concept.
The big panoramic roof and big greenhouse make for a light and airy cabin. The boomerang headlights and the new single-bar grill remain and the sideblades we’ve seen on the Astra and Insignia are still in evidence
Inside, the Zafira Tourer gets the clever Flex7 seating which allows the back row to fold flat and seats to move up and down, in and out, to and fro and, for all we know, do the Hokey Cokey.
Underpinning the Zafira Tourer is a FWD chassis which is almost completely Insignia – not a shoddy starting point – with a bit of stretch built in and a wider track to keep things stable.
Under the bonnet there will be a choice of a 2.0 litre oil-burner in three flavours, a 1.8 litre petrol and a 1.4 litre turbo petrol – plenty of decent choice.
This Vauxhall Zafira Touer (or Opel Zafira Tourer, depending on where you are) looks very much on the money.
