2013 Ford Fiesta facelift revealed

Wed, 05 Sep 2012

The 2013 facelift for the Ford Fiesta has been revealed with cosmetic tweaks and new engines. Debuts at the 2012 Paris Motor Show.

But perhaps Ford wanted more headlines for the facelifted Fiesta than it would get if it was rolled out at the same time as the new Mondeo, so we get details of what Ford has done to the still very good Fiesta to keep it fresh for a few more years.

The arrival of the 1.0 litre, three-cylinder EcoBoost is perhaps the most welcome change for the Fiesta, an engine that works really well in the Focus and will probably be even more appealing in the smaller Fiesta. It will be offered in both 99bhp and 118bhp versions and should be the engine of choice for all but the hyper-milers.

Ford are also offering the 1.5 litre diesel engine already seen in the B-Max in the 2013 Fiesta, initially with 74bhp but with other power outputs on the way to replace Ford’s current diesel Fiesta lineup. The only other change to the Fiesta engine lineup is the 1.6 litre, 177bhp EcoBoost that finds its way in to the new Fiesta ST.

Cosmetic changes see the arrival of Ford’s new ‘Aston Martin’ grill for a more confident look, with new headlights, LED running lights and a bulging bonnet making the front end of the Fiesta look quite different.

Inside the changes appear to be minor – and there was little wrong with the interior of the Fiesta anyway – with just some switchgear tweaks. But Ford is adding the option of the Ford Sync for connectivity on the go.

Ford hasn’t revealed any prices for the 2013 Fiesta, but we’d be surprised if there’s much change (although there’s always room to play when new engines arrive and like-for-like comparisons are impossible).

The 2013 Ford Fiesta facelift will get its public debut at the Paris Motor Show later this month with deliveries starting in the UK in January 2013.
