2013 Ford Mondeo leaks from iPad app
Sun, 08 Jan 2012The 2013 Ford Mondeo leaks
The 2013 Ford Mondeo – or, more accurately, the 2013 Ford Fusion in the US – has appeared on an iPhone app ahead of a reveal at the Detroit Motor Show.
It may not actually be the 2013 Ford Mondeo – it is in fact the 2013 Ford Fusion in the US – but, apart from a few subtle changes, the Fusion that’s made an appearance on a Ford iPhone app is the car Europe will get as the new Mondeo.
The 2013 Fusion is due to be revealed in all its glory at the Detroit Motor Show tomorrow (9/1/12), and Ford released an iPad app that counted down the days until the Fusion was due to put in an appearance. But a tech bod got it wrong and, for a short while, the image of the new Fusion you see above made an appearance.
Fortunately, one of Autoblog’s readers was on the ball and managed to grab the image before it was rapidly pulled by Ford. What we see is a very European-looking car with a very Aston Martin grill, just like the Ford Evos Concept we saw at Frankfurt this year which points the way not just to the future Ford design language, but also to a 21st century Capri.
In this new ‘One World’ Ford we’d expect the major difference between the new US Fusion and the new Mondeo for Europe will be nothing more than trim details and engines – Europe will focus on diesel, the US on petrol.
Whether what looks like a very convincing new Mondeo will be enough to rescue the Mondeo from the three-pronged attack of down-sizing, economy-seeking and the power of the BMW 3-Series remains to be seen, but if it’s half as good a car as the current Mondeo, the new Fusion/Mondeo certainly deserves to succeed.
More from Detroit on the new Mondeo/Fusion tomorrow, no doubt.
