2013 Jaguar XJ gets 3.0 Litre V6 S/C

Jaguar has announced the 2013 XJ with the new 3.0 litre V6 Supercharged engine replacing the old 5.0 litre V8. Starts at £65,365.

Hot on the heels of the news of prices for the XF Sportbrake and the tweaks to the 2013MY XF range, Jaguar has revealed a few tweaks for the 2013 Jaguar XJ.

Just like the XF (well, the saloon anyway), the 2013 XJ says goodbye to the naturally aspirated 5.0 litre V8 in favour of the new 3.0 litre Supercharged V6 heading for the new F-Type.

With 335bhp and 332lb/ft of torque, the new V6 S/C is down on both power and torque compared to the old V8 (385bhp and 380lb/ft), and it’s 0.2 seconds slower to 62mph too.

But where it does score is on economy, with the new S/C engine delivering official economy of 30mpg, a 20 per cent improvement on the old V8, and helping Jaguar’s average CO2/Economy figures in the process.

Changes across the XJ range include a new 8-speed ZF auto ‘box with stop-start for better economy (the V6 diesel will now do 47mpg) and re-calibrated springs and dampers with remapped damper software for better ride and comfort, and the option of Comfort Suspension Pack.

On the toys front Jaguar is now fitting DAB as standard on the XJ and has swapped the very good Bowers and Wilkins sound system for a new Meridian one with 825w and 20 speakers (standard on the Portfolio and Supersport).

Prices nudge up a tad for 2013 with the entry-level XJ 3.0 V6 Diesel Luxury nudging up from £55,525 to £56,260 and, at the other end, the XJ 5.0 Supercharged Supersport going up from £91,080 to £91,735.

On the other hand, dropping the naturally aspirated 5.0 litre V8 and replacing it with the new 3.0 litre V6 S/C has seen prices drop from £74,380 for the V8 portfolio to £72,815 for the V6 S/C Portfolio.

The 2013 Jaguar XJ is available from September 2012.
