2013 Mercedes C-Class gets a tweak

Mercedes has updated the C-Class for 2013 with new trim levels, lower emissions and new equipment. AMG Sport model added.

Mercedes-Benz has decided it’s time to tweak the C-Class for the 2013 model year with a raft of changes to make the very good C-Class even more appealing.

A new petrol engine for the C180 BlueEfficiency sees the arrival of a 1.6 litre turbo unit with 152bhp and 184lb/ft of torque, slightly less power than its predecessor but with from 44.9mpg and 149g/km in the Coupe to 47.9mpg and 138g/km in the saloon it is more frugal.

At the other end of the scale, Mercedes is dropping the slow-selling 3.5 litre V6 in the saloon and estate although you can still have it in the Coupe, and the hugely appealing C63 AMG is unaffected by the 2013 changes.

Spec changes for the 2013 C-Class sees the arrival of the AMG Sport trim replacing the old ‘Sport’ and the AMG Sport Plus offering more kit for about the same money as the old Sport model.

The AMG Sport gets 17″ alloys and halogen headlights but costs £960 less than the old Sport trim, and the AMG Sport Plus – just £35 more than the old Sport trim, gets 18″ alloys, bi-xenon headlights, AMG sports seats, contrast red stitching, AMG floor mats and silver flappy paddles. An extra £350 buys the AMG handling pack with uprated responses from the steering, suspension and exhaust.

Entry level trim for the 2013 C-Class is now Executive SE trim with sports grill, 16″ alloys, Artico upholstery and LED daytime lights with the option to add a Luxury Pack with three louvre grill, 17″ alloys, folding door mirrors, chrome trim and ash wood interior trim for an extra £2k.

The changes to the C-Class see residual values improve by 5 per cent – good for lease costs – and the new engine in the C180 BlueEfficiency lowers BIK rates by up to 4 per cent.
