2013 Subaru Forester revealed
Thu, 01 Nov 2012The new Subaru Forester – a 2014 Forester for the US – has been revealed ahead of a debut at the Los Angeles Motor Show this month.
The Forester still looks like a Forester although it is a bit longer, wider and taller and gets a longer wheelbase which, say Subaru, means more space in the back seats and more room ion the boot.
There are cosmetic tweaks with a crease running down the flanks under the window line, a new grill and bumpers, new alloys and a more slick feel to the looks. There’s extra toys too with a new Infotainment centre with smartphone integration, SatNav with reversing camera and a nice upmarket Harmon Kardon sound system.
Under the bonnet the US market will get a 170bhp 2.5 litre Boxer engine and a new 2.0 litre direct injection turbo petrol lump based on the engine under the bonnet of the BRZ and offering 250bhp.
If the new Forester comes to the UK – which we’re assuming it will – it seems likely it will be offered with a tweaked version of the 145bhp 2.0 litre diesel the current Forester gets, but we’re hoping Subaru will see fit to drop the current 148bhp 2.0 litre petrol and drop the new 250bhp version in as the UK’s petrol option.
That would make the very able, and very well made, Subaru Forester not just a sensible 4WD option, but a more interesting one too.
