2014 Audi A8 Facelift teased with design sketches
Sun, 18 Aug 2013It’s the 2014 Audi A8 facelift, complete with LED lights all round
It’s getting on for four years since the current Audi A8 was revealed, although only three since it arrived in showrooms. But now it’s time for a facelift. As this is Audi, don’t expect wholesale changes to the look of the A8. What we’re likely to get – judging by the sketches Audi has released of the facelift – is some mild titivation.
The usual facelift fodder is up for a tweak or two, with revisions to the front and back bumpers, some extra equipment, a tweak or two to make the A8 a bit more powerful and a bit more economical, and changes to the lights.
And it’s the changes to the lights on the A8 that are likely to get the most attention, with Audi changing the lights on the A8 to LED lights all round, and Matrix LEDs for the headlights.
The Matrix headlights do what they say on the tin, with a matrix of LEDs lighting up as required to give perfect illumination whatever the circumstances.
The indicators – front and back – also turn LED and work as a sequence of LEDs running from one side of the lit area to the other. And just in case you’re too stupid to visualise that, Audi has helpfully sent us a photo of the lighting sequence of the indicator LEDs.
This trailing of the LEDs on the facelifted A8 probably tells us that the rest of the facelift is minor, and just a way of getting a bit of PR for the A8 as the new 204 Mercedes S Class arrives to dominate the sector.
The Audi A8 facelift will be revealed on 21st August and we’ll see it at Frankfurt next month. But unless LED lights make your mouth water, you probably shouldn’t get too excited about the likely changes.
