2014 Cadillac XTS adds new twin-turbo V6

Wed, 15 May 2013

Cadillac is adding a new 420-hp, twin-turbo 3.6-liter V6 as an option for its XTS sedan for 2014.

General Motors unveiled the engine back in March, confirming that it will be an option on the new-for-2014 Cadillac CTS, and recent Cadillac press materials confirm that the engine option will be expanded to the XTS.

The all-aluminum engine makes use of direct-injection technology and is the highest-output V6 in GM history. Its peak horsepower comes at 5,750 rpm and it reaches peak torque of 430 lb-ft at 3,500 rpm. Unlike the CTS sedan's eight-speed transmission, the twin-turbo V6 on the XTS will be mated to a six-speed automatic.

A 3.6-liter V6 remains as the standard powerplant. Nineteen-inch wheels and Brembo front brakes are also standard. All-wheel drive is available as an option.

For 2014, the XTS will also add optional features such as automatic parking assist and electric power steering on front-wheel-drive models, automatic-dimming headlamps, rear-seat entertainment system with twin DVD screens that fold out of the backs of the front seats and front passenger-seat memory. Interior upgrades include a revised rear-seat armrest with wood trim, radio and sunroof sunshade controls.

The XTS will continue to be offered in standard, luxury, premium and platinum trims. Cadillac would not confirm pricing for 2014, but the 2013 base model carries a $44,995 price tag after shipping charges.
