A more rugged, pseudo off-road estate car is a sensible compromise for buyers looking for a bit more ruggedness than a regular estate car offers, but without going to a full-blow SUV or Crossover. So it makes a lot of sense for Skoda to go the ‘Allroad’ route with the Octavia Combi (estate) and give it a touch more rufty tufty and a new name – the Skoda Octavia Scout.
The 2014 Octavia Scout has been revealed ahead of a debut at the Geneva Motor Show next month and comes with all the butch add-ons you’d expect.
The Octavia Scout comes with a new set of bigger bumpers – black with silver coloured off-road bits – big air intakes and ‘look at me’ fog lights.
The door sills and wheel arches also get the black cladding treatment to make them more suitable for off-road (well, boot sale car parks) and the ground clearance is increased by 33mm. There’s also a set of 17″ alloys and the interior gets a bit of a tweak too.
Four-wheel-drive is fitted to the Scout and comes with increased approach and departure angles for improved rough terrain performance and the towing weight increased by 25 per cent. Engine options are a pair of 2.0 litre TDI diesels and a single petrol option.
Skoda man Frank Welsch said of the new Octavia Scout:
Our new model is a scout in the best sense and offers customers a unique package, comprising a striking off-road look, impressive all-wheel characteristics, plenty of space and modern safety, comfort and engine technologies.
The new Octavia Scout sets new standards in the crossover-vehicle segment.
The 2014 Skoda Octavi Scout debuts at Geneva and is expected to go on sale in the UK in the summer. Expect prices to be more than the £22,390 starting point of the 4WD Octavia Estate.
