2014 Toyota RAV4 (pictured) gets more equipment and a lower price

Toyota like to think of the RAV4 as the originator of the compact SUV, and as it’s been around for two decades and is in its fourth iteration, they probably have a point. But being the first doesn’t guarantee continued success; that comes from still being relevant and keeping up with the ever growing competition in the market place.

So Toyota are giving the RAV4 a bit of a makeover for 2014 – not quite a facelift, more an upgrade – with additional equipment across the range and a price drop too.

For the first time, RAV4 buyers will be able to get 2.0-litre 122bhp D-4D diesel with four wheel drive – in both Icon and Invincible trim – when it returns 53.3mpg with the six-speed manual ‘box.

The Icon and Invincible spec models also come with Toyota Touch 2 as standard which gives Bluetooth, rear view camera and vehicle information and the option of Toyota Touch 2 Go which adds in SatNav, Traffic Info, Speed Camera warnings and access to breakdown assistance in an emergency. It also gets Google Street View and Panoramio Apps with free access to additional Apps for a year.

Other updates include Keyless, push button start and new two-tone a8″ alloys on Icon models. with Invincible spec cars getting the choice of black or beige leather, parking sensors all round and a new Mahogany paint option.

The 2014 Toyota RAV4 is now on sale from £22,195 for the 2.0-litre D-4D 2WD Active, a saving of £400 over the 2013 model despite the additional equipment.
