2015 Ford S-Max revealed – debuts at 2014 Paris Motor Show

The Ford S-Max Concept arrived at the Frankfurt Motor Show last year as Ford worked hard to prove they really did have new cars on the way, despite the huge delay in delivering the new Ford Mondeo to Europe – with which the new S-Max shares its underpinnings – and now we get the real deal – the 2015 Ford S-Max. Looking very like the S-Max Concept, the new S-Max is the same size as the outgoing model but gets an evolutionary redesign complete with Ford’s ‘Aston Martin’ grill and some funky headlights, with the A-Pillars further back, higher beltline, bigger shoulders at the back and a set of slim tail lights at the back separated by a chrome strip. It all conspires to make the new S-Max sportier and more appealing.
Inside, there are far fewer switches than before with many functions moved to Ford’s SYNC2 Infotainment screen, digital instruments, electric parking brake, seven seats with the middle row folding individually and slidable.
There’s more technology too with stuff like autonomous braking, auto parking and lane keep assist as well as nice touches like a Panoramic glass roof.
Under the skin is a new platform – basically shared with the new Mondeo and new Edge – which will offer four-wheel-drive options on the more powerful engines and gets redesigned MacPherson struts at the front and a new integral link rear suspension plus new electric steering.
Engine options look set to be a new 2.0 litre diesel with outputs from 118bhp to 178bhp as well as a new 1.5 litre EcoBoost lump with around 160bhp and a 2.0 litre with 237bhp.
The 2015 Ford S-Max will debut at the Paris Motor Show next month and go on sale in the UK in summer 2015.
