2015 Jaguar XFR-S Sportbrake roars ahead of Geneva motor show debut

International auto shows are mixed blessings. On the one hand, we love seeing what's going on in other markets; on the other, we hate being tempted by cars that will never, ever make it stateside. In Tokyo, it's tiny, toylike econoboxes. In Europe, it's usually wagons.
And so it is with the Geneva motor show, where Jaguar is set to unveil the 2015 XFR-S Sportbrake -- presumably without a matching speedboat in tow. The XFR-S Sportbrake is to the Europe-only XF Sportbrake as the XFR-S is to the regular XF, and Jaguar says that the hot wagon's performance will equal that of the fast, luxurious sedan.
That means a 0-60 time of 4.6 seconds on the way to a top speed of 186 mph thanks to a supercharged 5.0-liter V8 good for 542 hp and 502 lb-ft of torque. Technically, that's 0.2 seconds slower than the XFR-S (and the wagon loses a few horsepower). We'll pretend we didn't notice the discrepancy – with the 20-inch forged alloy wheels, aggressive front fascia and a rear spoiler that's surprisingly subtle (compared to the WRX-like wing on the back of the XFR-S), it's easy to get distracted.
This combination of performance and usability comes at a price. When it goes on sale in April, it'll start at roughly $138,000 when converted from British pounds -- a jaw-dropping amount, yes, but it would probably cost significantly less than that were it to be offered here. Not that Jag has any plans to sell the sleek and speedy (and practical!) Sportbrake over here, at least at the present time.
Naturally, we'll let you know if anything changes, but we're not going to be liable for anything that might happen if you hold your breath. You can at least console yourself with the E63 AMG wagon, which is somewhat less elegant but is a tad faster anyway, and offered here.

Unfortunately, there's almost no chance we'll see the 2015 Jaguar XFR-S here in the United States.
