2015 Volvo XC90 R-DESIGN revealed
Thu, 18 Sep 2014The 2015 Volvo XC90 R-DESIGN revealed
It’s been a few weeks of reveals for the all-new Volvo XC90 – Volvo’s replacement for the venerable, but still relevant, original XC90 – with both the standard XC90 and the XC90 First Edition being revealed. Now it’s the turn of the XC90 R-Design. The new Volvo XC90 R-Design is exactly what you’d expect from an R-Design Volvo; enough bolt-on extras to denote something a little different and, perhaps, a little more sporty, but not so much it looks like the work of a pizza-faced teen let loose in a car customising emporium.
That means subtle changes for the grill, a front spoiler, silk metal finish for the window surrounds, integrated dual exhausts, silver roof rails, matt silver door mirrors and 20″ alloys.
Inside (which for some reason Volvo hasn’t sent us photos of) gets Contour Sports Seats and perforated leather steering wheel and gear lever, with R-Design tweaks for the sports seats, pedals, floor mats and tread plates, R-Design key fob and R-Design updates for the driver display.
Unlike previously – where the R-Design pack was an add-on across the range – Volvo has decided that the R-Design XC90 will sit above the regular Momentum trim as the ‘Sporty’ top of the XC90 tree, alongside the luxury top-end XC90 Inscription model.
Alain Visser, Volvo’s Marketing VP, said:
R-Design is created for people with a passion for things that add spice to life. It appeals to customers that love active driving and a personal, expressive design. Every single R-Design detail is designed to contribute to the individualistic and refined expression these customers desire.
In principle, we have replaced the previous top level with the Inscription and R-Design versions. Both of them feature an elevated content, carefully chosen to emphasise each of their distinctive individual personalities.
The new Volvo XC90 R-Design will be revealed at the 2014 Paris Motor Show next month.
