Abarth 695 biposto is the quickest Fiat 500: Geneva Motor Show

The revised Fiat 500 range for 2014 is on show at the Geneva Motor Show this week with some nice revisions to take Fiat’s iconic little 500 forward. But if you want a Fiat 500 with decent get up and go you need to look at the Abarth 500s and now – also debuting at Geneva – you’ll also have the option of the quickest Abarth to date – the new Abarth 695 biposto.
The 695 biposto comes with a 1.4 litre turbocharged engine delivering 187bhp, enough for a power to weight ratio of an impressive 5.2kg/hp thanks to weight savings cutting the 695 biposto’s weight to just 997kg.
That weight saving has been achieved by removing fripperies like the back seats (hence ‘biposta’ which means 2-seater), Climate, electric windows and fogs and fitting fixed front windows, carbon bits on the bumpers, sills, wheel arches and spoilers, lighter 18″ Oz alloys and a rear titanium roll bar.
Abarth’s intent with the 695 biposto is to produce a proper track car that just happens to be road legal, so it even gets a quick shift dog-ring sequential gearbox to make (expert) changes lightening fast – the first time such a ‘box has been fitted to a road car in this segment.
Also fitted are an Akrapovic exhasut, adjustable Extreme Shox, Data Logger, 4-point belts, racing seats and Brembo brakes.
The Abarth 695 biposto is about as far removed as it could be from a cute and fluffy Fiat 500, and you’ll really only want one if you want to drive everywhere like your hair’s on fire. But it will be a complete hoot.
The Abarth 695 biposto will be available towards the end of 2014, but it won’t be cheap – think the wrong side of £30k.
