Actor Larry Hagman sends scooter, acting memorabilia to auction
Tue, 10 May 2011In his career-defining role as J. R. Ewing in the TV drama Dallas, actor Larry Hagman usually drove a Mercedes-Benz sedan, or sometimes a Cadillac Allante.
But in Hagman's garage, you'll find a 2007 Piaggio scooter--and you can buy it.
Hagman, also known to millions as Major Anthony Nelson on I Dream of Jeannie, is unloading a life's worth of mementos at an auction on June 4 in Beverly Hills, Calif.
The slew of memorabilia and personal treasures that Hagman, 79, is selling includes a sterling-mounted parade saddle (estimated value $60,000 to $80,000), snakeskin cowboy boots and dueling pistols.
And there's that cherry red three-wheeler. It had 1 mile on the odometer when Hagman titled it a few years back.
Sure, the scooter has a tough act to follow in light of our recent news that a Steve McQueen motorcycle is up for auction on May 14 in Carmel, Calif. But you never know, J.R. may have left something behind in the cargo compartment.
