Alfa Romeo Gloria Concept looks like a proper Alfa
Sat, 16 Feb 2013A new Alfa concept – the Alfa Romeo Gloria Concept – is heading for the 2013 Geneva Motor Show. But it’s not previewing a new Alfa.
They’re wrong, of course, but the logic that if you buy a car for how it looks and how it makes you feel, rather than its reliability or cost, marks you out as someone with high octane fuel instead of blood running through your veins, is sound.
That ‘buying with the heart’ extends to many other marques than just Alfa (Jaguar and Range Rover are good examples) but we do confess that a real Alfa does tug at the heart strings, and the wallet.
And, if Alfa were to make the great looking Gloria Concept (pictured above) we may have to lock ourselves in a cupboard and hide the plastic until the insatiable urge to buy the Gloria passed.
The Alfa Romeo Gloria Concept has been designed by the European Design Institute (IED) of Turin with guidance from Alfa’s Style Team, and does look just like a modern interpretation of Alfas gone by.
There are design cues from Alfa’s history like the leather straps on the bonnet, a bonnet that swoops down to the Alfa-shaped nose, and the designers envisage a V6 or V8 BiTurbo lurking under the bonnet and driving the rear wheels. Heaven.
But although the Gloria looks Gloria-ous, it’s not likely to see production, more’s the pity, but will be on show at next month’s Geneva Motor Show to provoke lust for the Alfa marque.
Which it will.
