Alfa Romeo and IED collaborate on 'Gloria' concept for Geneva
Mon, 18 Feb 2013The European Institute of Design (IED) in Turin will unveil its new Gloria concept, developed in collaboration with Alfa Romeo Style Center, at next month's Geneva motor show.
The sports sedan concept, which is 4,200mm long, 1,920mm wide, 1,320mm high sitting on a wheelbase of 2,900mm, is previewed in this render, which shows a traditional Alfa grille that feeds into the hood's prominent V-shaped character lines. Two leather hood straps in front of the windshield are a nod to the brand's older models.
Its flanks feature a heavily concave surface and an exaggerated rocker, while the beltline stretches from the top of the front wheelarch, creating a soft wave effect before straightening as it feeds into the rear lamp. The blacked-out glasshouse features a silver cant rail that appears to float on top.
Alfa Romeo Style Center worked with the students from the IED in each phase from setting the brief to the development of the 1:1 scale model. 20 design proposals from the students were developed in 1:4 scale clay models before one was chosen. The entire class of students, divided into groups then worked on the final project in full scale.
