Nissan has finally brought their X-Trail SUV up to date with an all new X-Trail debuting at the Frankfurt Motor Show. Gone are the boxy looks of the old X-Treail to be replaced by a much more modern looking package that takes many of its styling cues from the Juke and Qashqai, promising much more appeal to buyers in the process.

Despite its cosmetic makeover that moves it closer to its soft-roading siblings, the new X-Trail still promises to fo the rough stuff with a decent amount of aplomb.

It gets Nissan’s electronic ALL Mode 4x4i system which offers two wheel or four wheel drive at the touch of a button, with the system constantly distributing torque for the best grip when in Auto mode.

Active Ride alos arrives with the ability to set the X-Trail up properly for upcoming bumps and Active Engine Brake that controls engine braking when cornering or decelerating for better control.

The X-Trail even gets Active Trace Control – something reserved until now just for Infiniti – which brakes individual wheels toi help understeer as well as Uphil Start and Hill Descent control. It’s a comprehensive package to make the X-Trail more able and more dynamic.

Inside, the X-Trail moves up a notch or two in quality and ambience, with leather an option, quality materials and even the option of an extra two seats to make the X-Trail a seven-seater if you need it.

Nissan hasn’t announced engine and transmission options yet, but they’ll be revealed before the new X=Trail goes on sale in the UK in summer 2014.
