Amazing garage-find Jaguars to be auctioned
Fri, 18 Oct 2013TWO REMARKABLE Jaguars that were found abandoned in separate garages are to be sold at auction.
A 1961 E-Type, one of the earliest ever made and confirmed as chassis number 40, was discovered just a few weeks ago in a garage near Le Mans by Coys auction house, which will also complete the sale.
The car hasn’t moved since it was left in the garage in 1974, although Coys claims the engine was last started five years ago and it still turns over freely.
It has generated huge interest among classic car collectors and is presently in surprisingly good unrestored condition. With a conservative estimate of £30,000 to £40,000 this E-Type is expected to attract many bids.
Also found in a garage recently, this time in Essex, was a 1951 Jaguar XK120, which according to Coys is rumoured to have some competition pedigree.
Speaking about the E-Type, Chris Routledge, Managing Partner at Coys said: “This is a really amazing find which has got the Jaguar world really excited.
“The 1961 car is in amazing condition considering where it was left and interest is going off the scale."
He added: “But this is not the only Jaguar find. We are also selling an XK120 Roadster reported to have a competition history that was found in a lock-up in Essex.
“The last XK that we sold in this condition made over £90,000 and we expect the E-Type to do exceptionally well.”
