Auction of Jay Leno tractor to benefit veterans
Tue, 17 Jan 2012
Bidders at the Barrett-Jackson auction in Scottsdale, Ariz., this week have a chance to buy a vehicle being retired from entertainer Jay Leno's garage and support a charity that serves military families.
The vehicle is a New Holland Boomer tractor. For the past five years, the staff at Leno's garage has used the "Lil Tug" to move the TV host's large collection of classic and unique cars around the facility. But it's been replaced by a newer New Holland Boomer tractor.
The Lil Tug has been signed by Leno and by former President George W. Bush. It is set to cross the Barrett-Jackson auction block at 9:30 p.m. Eastern on Jan. 21.
Proceeds from the tractor's sale will be given to the Fisher House Foundation. Barrett-Jackson is waiving its auction fees.
The foundation builds and maintains guest houses on military bases and near Veterans Administration medical centers. The guest houses provide a place to stay for families of veterans who travel great distances to receive specialized medical care.
New Holland is also donating $100 to the Fisher House Foundation for every Boomer tractor sold in the United States and Canada until Jan. 21. It also offers military veterans a $300 discount on the purchase of a tractor.
