Audi A1 – Production to start
Sun, 19 Jul 2009Audi will being production of the Audi A1 in October
And now comes confirmation that Audi is finally going to kick off production of the A1 in October. The head of Audi’s Brussels plant – Alfons Dintner – has confirmed that the Audi A1 will start production in October after a five week shutdown in August to gear the Brussels plant up for production of the new A1.
The new Audi A1 will start to hit European Showrooms in the early part of 2010. Expect the 3-door to show up first, with the 5-door Sportback following later. Engine options are likely to be pretty wide, but will probably kick off with the 4-pot engines from VAG, including the 1.2 and 1.4 litre TSI petrol engines.
The new Audi A1 will stick pretty closely to the concepts, but as usual you can expect some of the more extreme interior treatments to be watered down. It’s also unlikely that the frameless windows and aggressive nose will make it in to production, but I’m sure we’ll get more detail soon – probably in the run-up to Frankfurt in September.
In addition to the Audi A1 and the Audi A1 Sportback, expect to see an Audi A1 Cabriolet before too long, and probably a hot Audi S1.
