Audi A4 top of the heap in Germany
Mon, 19 Jan 2009The Germans love a premium saloon car, and make some of the finest there are. BMW, Mercedes and Audi all have a fine range of premium cars, but it’s BMW who have taken the bulk of the sales with the 3 Series. But not any more.
The German car buyers have now woken up to the fact that, overall, Audi now has a better range of cars, and the A4 has, for the first time, become the top-selling premium car in Germany.
Audi A4 - Best selling premium car in Germany
In 2008 Audi managed to shift 98,000 A4s, second only to the more humble Golf (although it was in reality a VW 1-2). Not only that, but Audi also managed to end up top of the heap with the A6 and TT, culminating in a year on year increase in Audi’s market share in Germany of over 10% ( they now have 8.1% of the German market).
Yet another great result for Audi, but it will lead to a backlash at some point, particularly from us cynical Brits. We never did like success – always championing the underdog and deriding the successful – and it won’t be long before Audi’ world domination starts to backfire. Which would be a rotten shame, as they truly have a stunning range of cars.
Still, not much chance of changing our attitude to success. Is there?
