Audi A5 & S5 Cabriolet model range and images
Sun, 22 Feb 2009Audi A5 and Audi S5 Cabriolets announced
With the Audi A5 Cabriolet and the Audi S5 Cabriolet scheduled for launch in the Spring, Audi has released details of both models today, together with a whole heap of images.
The A5 Cabriolet offers up four petrol versions – 1.8TFSI, 2.0TSI (in either 180bhp or 210bhp guise) and a 3.2FSI – and a couple of diesels – the 2.7TDI and the 3.0TDI. The S5 Cabriolet gets the new Supercharged V6 with 333bhp we told you about in November. Prices start at €37,300 for the entry-level 1.8TFSI (which is a bit misleading as the 1.8TFSI won’t be available for some time – still, it makes the start price look good), but no confirmation yet on UK Car prices.
Audi is sensibly sticking with the rag-top on these cars, meaning better headline prices and a properly usable boot with the top down. Top-down time is just 15 seconds. Cute options include a head-height heating system (similar to the Mercedes ‘Scarf’ heater) and a special coating on the optional leather seats to stop you burning the backs of your legs on a hot day (not too much call for that in the UK – still, it’s damned uncomfortable when it does happen, so nice to have).
Front wheel drive is the norm, but more powerful versions offer 4WD with a sports rear diff. Choice of manual 6-speed ‘box, continuously variable multitronic and the excellent 7-speed S-Tronic.
The S5 gets the blown (supercharged) version of the 3.0 litre V6 with 333bhp, 4wd, sports suspension, bigger wheels and the usual ‘S’ bits and pieces.
Terrific car, no doubt, and with Summer (or at least Spring) looming, these will sell well, even in these difficult times.
