Audi A5 Sportback
Fri, 17 Jul 2009Audi has officially revealed the Sportback, adding yet another model to the A5 range. Blurring the line between a sedan, a coupe and a conventional wagon, the emotional, progressive design measures 4711mm long and 1854mm wide, yet stands only 1391mm high (12mm shorter than a Mercedes CLS).
With front and rear ends characterized by horizontal lines, the automaker's characteristic proportions are evident when viewed in profile. With a glass-to-sheet metal surface ratio of between one third and two thirds, the car's taut lines and convex/concave surfaces underline a slender DLO. The C-pillar runs rearward in a long, elegant wave, integrating a narrow third quarterlight with an upward pointing tip – homage to the Audi 100 Coupé S from 1969.
The A5 Sportback will make its official public debut at the 2009 Frankfurt show in September and we'll bring you our unique criticism of the design when we see the new model in the metal.
