Audi A6 & Audi A7 get 309bhp V6 Bi-Turbo Diesel
Tue, 31 Jan 2012The UK gets the new 3.0 BiTDI quattro in the A6 and A7
Audi has launched a new 309bhp V6 BiTurbo diesel engine in the UK for the A6 range and A7 Sportback.
If you’re in Germany and wondering why reporting a new, more powerful Bi-Turbo diesel for the A6 and A7 is news, that’s because you’ve already got it, and we haven’t. Until now.
Audi has now got round to offering the BiTurbo 309bhp V6 diesel in to the new A6 range – A6 Saloon, A6 Avant and Allroad – and in the A7 Sportback too in the UK, and it’s the most powerful V6 diesel engine fitted to an Audi so far.
The V6 Bi-Turbo diesel can muster 309bhp and has access to 479lb/ft of torque, enough to throw the Audi to 62mph in as little as 5.1 seconds in the A6 saloon (5.3 seconds in the A7 Sportback). Yet despite the prodigious amounts of grunt the V6 Bi-Turbo can manage 44.1mpg. Not at the same time, mind you, but for days when you’re poodling 44mpg is not to be sniffed at.
One interesting treat that comes as standard with the new 3.0 litre V6 BiTDI is an actuator in the auxiliary channel of the exhaust system that has a speaker that imposes a defined oscillation pattern on the exhaust flow, effectively ‘tuning’ the exhaust note to sound like a high-performance petrol lump. Nice touch.
The new BiTurbo 3.0 litre diesel is now available across the A6 range and on the A7 Sportback from £43,810, and will also be offered in the new A6 Allroad when that arrives (the order book opens on the Allroad quattro in February).
