Audi RS6 Avant ‘Plus’ planned with 600bhp
Tue, 29 Jan 2013Audi are planning a ‘Plus’ model of the new RS6 Avant which will come with around 600bhp and be a full production model.
Just as they have with the launch of the TT RS Plus, Audi are planning to give the new RS6 Avant even more power than it already enjoys in an RS6 Avant Plus model, and it won’t be a limited edition model but a full production option.
Talking to Car Magazine, Stephan Reil, Audi Quattri Division boss, said that Audi were planning a range of RS Plus models which could get not just a performance boost but less weight too. And of the impending RS6 Avant Plus, Reill said it would need around 10 per cent more power than the standard RS6 to make its pointing, which means something a little north of 600bhp.
That sort of power would probably give the RS6 Avant Plus the edge over the new Mercedes E63 AMG S with 4MATIC which can scoot to 62mph in just 3.6 seconds (0.3s quicker than the RS6 Avant) and it should be available in the UK – unlike the new 4MATIC E63 AMG S.
Reill said that the RS6 Avant will only offer 552bhp in the standard car in 2013, but that points to an RS6 Avant Plus arriving some time in 2014, with other RS Plus models planned across the Audi range too.
The German horsepower race is far from over.
