Audi TT RS – Geneva Update
Sun, 08 Mar 2009Audi TT RS official launch at Geneva 2009
We have written quite a bit about Audi’s latest hot TT RS, some of it speculative, some of it factual. But it makes sense with such an interesting car to have a quick recap and confirm the stats – Oh, and you may as well have the Press Release to digest.
Audi got the ball rolling ahead of the Geneva 2009 launch for the Audi TT RS by issuing a set of teaser images. They could have been worse – at least they weren’t moody silhouettes – but they showed only small details, no ‘car’ shots. That was followed up by a set of black and whites of the TT RS, which appeared to be B&W scans of the yet to come official pictures, and then finally, on 23/02 Audi issued a set of official pictures of the TT RS. What a saga. Still, it gave us something to write!
But even then, Audi were being less than clear on the TT RS’ power. They said it would offer ‘More than 300PS’, which was vague, and less than we’d expected. But at least we now have the official gen, so here we go..
The Audi TT RS comes with a 2.5 litre, direct-injection, turbocharged, 5-pot with 340bhp and 332ft/lbs of torque. There, that’s better. Pretty much what we were saying ages ago until, Audi obfuscated the issue by talking about ‘More than 300PS’. Still, you can’t really blame them. They needed to keep something back for the actual Geneva launch.
The TT RS will come as either a Coupe or a Convertible. managing a pretty impressive 4.6 seconds 0-60 for the Coupe and 4.7 seconds for the Convertible. To put that in to context, the coupe manages the 0-60 in exactly the same time as the Audi R8.
Orders start now for the Audi TT RS, with UK Cars starting to arrive in June. Prices are £43k for the Coupe and £45k for the Convertible. About half the price of a well-specced R8. Seems something of a bargain.
