Audi TT RS Plus unveiled
Fri, 10 Feb 2012There’s a new, more powerful TT – the Audi TT RS Plus
The Audi TT RS Plus – a mode powerful and focused TT RS – has been revealed ahead of its debut at the Geneva Motor Show.
At the end of January we reported that the Geneva Motor Show would see the debut of a more powerful Audi TT and a new RS4. So it’s no surprise that we now get news of the more powerful TT – the Audi TT RS Plus – ahead of its debut next month.
We had our doubts about the TT RS Plus because the rumour mill was talking about a power hike to 355bhp (and no back seats) to produce a more focused TT RS to take on cars like the Boxster.
But it seemed to us that all Audi were likely to do was to endow the European TT RS with the same 355bhp the US version gets. Which is effectively what they’ve done, but they’ve managed to make a new model to add to the top of the TT range.
So the TT RS Plus gets its 2.5 litre turbo tweaked to deliver 20 horses (and 11lb/ft) more than the regular TT RS, which gets mounted in a carbon fibre trimmed engine bay. The TT RS Plus also gets an exhaust flap that opens when you get heavy with your right foot for more of the right sounds.
Available as either the TT RS Plus Coupe or TT RS Plus Roadster, the tweaks to the engine deliver a 0-60mph of 4.1 seconds (4.2 in the Roadster) and Audi have upped the limiter to 174mph. The TT RS Plus also gets an even firmer suspension setting than the regular TT RS, and economy is 33.2mpg for the coupe and 32.8mpg for the Roadster.
Audi has had a bit of a play with the cosmetics on the TT RS Plus – just so your neighbours know this is a ‘special’ TT RS – with a high-gloss black grill, CFRP door mirrors, new wing and black trims on the oval tailpipes.
No price details have been revealed for the Audi TT RS Plus in the UK, but in Germany the Coupe will cost €60,650 and the Roadster €63,500.
