Audi designs car for 'Ender's Game' sci-fi movie
Thu, 08 Aug 2013Audi has designed a futuristic car for the upcoming sci-fi action blockbuster Ender's Game.
The carmaker joined forces with director Gavin Hood and his production team to digitally integrate its first entirely virtual car – the Audi Fleet Shuttle Quattro – into the futuristic environment of the film.
Frank Rimili, chief designer for the film project, said, "Designing the Audi Fleet Shuttle Quattro was similar to customizing a tailor-made suit. We adapted it to the requirements of the world in Ender's Game and at the same time had to take care to preserve our brand values.
"We were ultimately able to perfectly project our design philosophy into the fictional world of the movie."
Although it's the first time Audi designed an entirely virtual car, the carmaker has starred on the big screen before. Versions of the R8 have been used by Tony Stark in the Iron Man movies, while a futuristic version of the car, named the RSQ, featured in the 2004 film I, Robot.
From the images we have of the Fleet Shuttle Quattro the similarities between it and the RSQ are clear, with both featuring enclosed wheels, rear-opening scissor doors and a streamlined shape.
