Ayrton Senna's Toleman Formula One car to be auctioned at Silverstone in May
Thu, 22 Mar 2012
Several impressive lots are set to cross the block at Silverstone Auctions' Spring Sale, scheduled for May 16 at Silverstone Circuit in Northhamptonshire in the United Kingdom.
By far the most impressive is a Toleman TG184-2 Formula One race car driven by Ayrton Senna in his first F1 season. The car is best known for Senna's second-place finish at the rainy 1984 Monaco Grand Prix. Senna also raced the Toleman to a third-place finish at the British Grand Prix and a seventh in Canada. Silverstone Auctions says the car is offered in complete and original condition and it is capable of being raced or demonstrated.
The car has been in a private collection for the past 16 years, so it will be the first time that the car has been ogled by the public in recent history. There is no estimated price on the car, but with the documentary Senna now available on DVD and Blu-ray, we'd bet that this car will bring in the biggest bid of the day.
Bidders will also get a shot at a 1973 Porsche 911 Carrera RS 2.7 Touring. The 911 is in fully restored condition and is prepared for competition work with FIA HTP papers. It's estimated that the car could sell for as much as $332,000. If that figure causes your eyes to water, a matching-numbers, fully restored 1970 Jaguar E-type 4.2 Series II Coupe is expected to sell for about $87,000.
Viewing will take place all day on May 15 and on the morning of the May 16. Automobilia will begin crossing the block at noon, while vehicle sales start at 2 p.m. Full details on registration requirements and a buying guide can be found on the Silverstone Auctions Web site.
