New BMW 2 Series tease begins

BMW’s plans to extend their model range continues, with the new BMW 2 Series due to join its larger sibling – the BMW 4 Series – as the 1 Class Coupe/Cabriolet. The official reveal for the new BMW 2 Series is expected at the end of next week, but ahead of that BMW has started to tease its new Coupe on video (below).

We don’t get to see much – and what we do see isn’t a huge surprise – but we already know much of what to expect when the 2 Series starts to hit the road in 2014.

At least three models will be available at launch, with specs for the 220d, 220i and and M235i already leaking out.

The 22od will come with a 2.0 litre turbo good for 181bhp, 280lb/ft of torque, 63mpg and a 0-62mph of 7.1 seconds, whiclst its petrol sibling – the BMW 220i – gets a 2.0 litre petrol turbo with the same 181bhp, a slightly quicker o-62mph of 7.0 seconds and good for 46mpg.

The quickest new 2 Series – at least until an M2 arrives – will be the M235i with a 3.0 litre straight six producing 322bhp and 332lb/ft of torque, a 0-62mph of just 5.0 seconds and an official fuel economy of 35mpg.

The new BMW 2 Series will be revealed next Friday (25th October 2013). You can probably expect more teases – or leaked photos – ahead of that.
