BMW 4 Series Gran Coupe on video

We have video of the 2014 BMW 4 Series Gran Coupe – effectively a baby 6 Series Gran Coupe – the new flagship for the BMW 3 / 4 Series range.

Yes, every car maker on the planet is seeking new sales by offering more and more niche models, and BMW is no different.

The best-selling BMW 3 Series range is due to be extended with a new 4 Series range of models that will offer the coupe and cabriolet versions of the 3 Series, including a car that could be considered a niche too far – the BMW 4 Series Gran Coupe.

At least we would have considered it a niche too far before we reviewed the BMW 640d Gran Coupe recently when we concluded it was very possibly the best all round car BMW make. So a smaller version in the 4 Series Gran Coupe now holds much promise.

Just like the 6 Series Gran Coupe, the 4 Series Gran Coupe will use the model ‘below’ as its platform – in the case of the 4 Series that’s the new 3 Series – and add a bit of length and a swoopy-coupe roofline to create a new niche model.

The 4 Series Gran Coupe will be the flagship of the new range, which will include the 4 Series Coupe, 4 Series Cabriolet and 4 Series GT as well as the Gran Coupe, and will get suitably upmarket interiors and top end engine options, including the 3.0 litre turbodiesel and, we would expect, an M4 Gran Coupe too.

Much to our surprise, the BMW 4 Series Gran Coupe is a car we wait for with some anticipation  Although it’s not likely to hit BMW showrooms until 2014.
