BMW 6 Series Gran Coupe price revealed
Thu, 22 Dec 2011BMW 6 Series Gran Coupe starts at £61k in the UK
BMW has revealed that the new 6 Series Gran Coupe will cost from £61,380 in the UK for the petrol engined 640i.
The new BMW 6 Series Gran Coupe has had a bit of a sneak reveal in London this week ahead of its official debut at the Detroit Auto Show next month. And those who’ve been seem rather impressed.
We did wonder if stretching the 6 Series to make a four door swoopy coupe might just make the proportions of the Gran Coupe seem a bit contrived, but the general consensus seems to be that the Gran Coupe actually look more elegant as a four door than as a two door.
What we have now discovered is that if you want to buy a nice new Gran Coupe you’ll have to cough up around the same money as a 7 Series – at least for the entry-level 640i SE. That will set you back £61,380, and if you want to make your new four door look a little more purposeful, you can have the 640i M Sport for £66,045.
The biggest selling Gran Coupe is going to be the 640d SE, with its 22 per cent BIK rate, 0-62mph in 5.4 seconds and official average economy of 50.4mpg. The diesel will cost £63,895, and if you want to get sporty the 640d M Sport version will costs £68,560. So far we have no prices for the range-topping 650i.
It’s clear from the pricing that BMW aren’t too worried about the Gran Coupe stealing sales from the 7 Series, and we wonder if they’re seriously looking to take sales from either the Mercedes CLS or Audi A7. The CLS starts at around £50k and the A7 at £45k, and even the cheapest Gran Coupe is a country mile more expensive.
That said, if the Gran Coupe looks this good in the flesh, perhaps BMW are in danger of stealing sales only from their own 6 Series Coupe?
