BMW has unveiled its V12-engined 7-series at the Shanghai motor show. Powered by an all-new turbocharged 6.0-litre lump, the 760 produces 536bhp and 553lb ft.
The new 760 is available in both standard and long-wheelbase iterations, the later offering an extra 140mm of rear legroom. But it’s what’s up front that matters. The new 760 features a new all-aluminium turbocharged 6.0-litre V12 with direct fuel injection and BMW’s famous double-VANOS camshaft adjustment. It’s enough to produce 536bhp at 5000rpm and 553lb ft from just 1500rpm, so it means this two-tonne limo will sprint to 62mph in just 4.6 seconds.
All this power is sent to the rear wheels via a new eight-speed automatic gearbox, and it helps the 760 achieve 21.9mpg, which BMW claims is a 4.5% improvement of the old V12-engined 7-series.
