BMW M3 Lime Rock Park Edition set for fall

Mon, 09 Jul 2012

The current generation of the BMW M3 has been with us since 2007. As it nears a refresh, the company built a limited run of 200 special M3 coupe Lime Rock Park Edition cars to celebrate the racetrack in Connecticut.

Skip Barber, owner of Lime Rock, and BMW collaborated on the vehicle, which will only come in what BMW calls fire orange. Inside, there is anthracite and black cloth seating with napa leather trim. The company's Competition package is included, as is the M3's available carbon-fiber roof. A lightweight titanium exhaust, carbon-fiber front and rear aero bits, and a flat-bottom steering wheel are also standard. A numbered plaque is located on the center console.

Sports-car driver Bill Auberlen, who has driven more than 300 races in the M3, joined Barber and Lime Rock management at the track to shake down the ride.

“A race car is never allowed to be perfect,” Auberlen said. “It's the job of the driver to constantly suggest improvements and find more speed. But the M3 Lime Rock Park Edition may be as close to perfect as you can get, right off the production line. From its great color to the flawless manners it showed on the track, for the first time I can say I might not change a thing.”

The 2013 BMW M3 coupe Lime Rock Park Edition will cost $70,995, including $895 destination when it lands in dealerships in September.
