BMW M6 Gran Coupe: Offical
Thu, 13 Dec 2012After an early leak of photos, the new BMW M6 Gran Coupe – complete with 4.4 litre bi-turbo V8 and 553bhp – arrives ahead of a Detroit Auto Show debut.
Just as expected, the M6 Gran Coupe comes with BMW’s 4.4 litre twin-turbo V8, delivering 553bhp to the baqck wheels and driving the M6 to 62mph in 4.2 seconds. And, if our previous experience of the 6 Series Gran Coupe is anything to go by, providing sublime handling and dynamics in the process.
All that power goes to the back wheels through a seven-speed dual-clutch ‘box with an electronically controlled Active M Diff for even better traction, huge new brakes and a choice of two configurable driving modes – M1 and M2.
Cosmetically, the M6 Gran Coupe gets the usual aggressive body kit, the bonded-in carbon fibre composite roof panel from the regular M6, butch front spoiler, flared wheelarches, side skirts and a rear diffuser with four exhaust pipes.
The interior is Gran Coupe good with lashings of Merino leather and an elegant look, heads-up display, Alcantara headliner, M Multifunction Sports seats and room for five – even if the middle passenger in the back does need to sit with their legs apart.
Expect the BMW M6 Gran Coupe to cost near to £100k when it arrives in the UK in summer 2013. That’s a third more than the BMW M5, but it is a much more appealing car.
