BMW Museum puts spotlight on history of coupes and convertibles
Mon, 24 Oct 2011
The BMW Museum in Munich is running a special exhibition that takes a closer look at the automaker's history of coupe and convertibles.
The "Line of Beauty--The Big BMW Coupes and Convertibles" exhibit runs from Oct. 28 until the end of September 2012.
The museum will display 14 historical BMWs that span the years from 1937 to 2011. The displays include the cars, preliminary design studies and original hand sketches from the BMW Group archives.
The temporary exhibit begins with a look at the BMW 327 Sports Convertible and the BMW 327/328 Sports Coupe from the prewar era.
Also included are the 502 Coupe and Convertible, along with the 503 Coupe, which the company says reflected the upbeat economic times of the 1950s. The Bertone-designed 3200 CS and the 2000 CS are represented, followed by the 3.0 CSi of the 1970s. The exhibits go right through the 1990s and end with the redesigned 6-series coupe and convertible that were unveiled earlier this year.
The BMW Museum is open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesdays through Sundays and costs about $16.65 at current exchange rates.
