BMW Vision ConnectedDrive (w/Video)

Spearheading BMW's drive on technologies at the 81st Geneva motor show will be this: the Vision ConnectedDrive. The car is said to set the course for future BMWs in terms of design language but also the technologies integrated into them.

A two-seat roadster, the Vision ConnectedDrive is a 'purist interpretation' of BMW design language. Taking in the traditional kidney-grille and 'angel eyes' dominated DRG, the sporting silhouette is recognizable from the long hood which blends into the front screen. The main feature of both exterior and interior is the fiber optic lighting that wraps around the two entities, splitting the car into differing sections and making a visual differentiation between three areas – safety, infotainment and comfort. These are represented by their own color. Encased within the sculptured bodywork is another unique feature to the exterior's design: the doors, which retract into the high sills, as on the Z1. The rear of the concept features the distinctive 'L-Design' rear lights and a detailed bumper that takes in two air vents, reminscent of the Vision EfficientDynamics concept shown in Frankfurt in 2009.

The ConnectedDrive concept's IP features a panel in front of the passenger seat that is the 'gateway' into the infotainment system onboard of the car. When inactive, the system is unrecognizable from the rest of the IP. However, when activated, the touch-sensitive system relays a variety of information and entertainment options. The wraparound individual seats and HUD for the driver convey a level of sporting intent, but also add a military-esque feel to the interior.
