BMW Welt hosts 'Line of Beauty' exhibition

Wed, 26 Oct 2011

The BMW museum is playing host to a special exhibition entitled ‘The Line of Beauty', which takes a trip through the history of the ‘big' BMW coupes and convertibles.

The flagship BMW coupes and convertibles have an illustrious past and most are icons in their own right. The exhibition features 14 individual exhibits that span from the pre-war 327 and 327/28 Convertible and Coupe through to the current F12/13 6-Series.

Nestled amongst these two eras are the 502 and 503 of the 1950s, cars BMW claims were spawned from the ‘economic miracle' of the decade. These are lined up alongside the Bertone-designed 3200CS and the 2000CS – a car the German automaker says is instrumental in marking a turning point in the history of the big BMW.

The following decade is illustrated with the iconic E9 3.0 CSi coupe, the car that spawned the much-celebrated ‘Batmobile' racer. Swiftly following on from the E9 is the shark-nosed E24 6 Series of 1976.

As the ‘journey through time' nears present day, visitors are presented with the car that replaced the 6: the E31 8 Series of the early 1990s. The low slung four-seat flagship coupe that was blighted through its lifespan due to global economic issues. Bringing the exhibition up to current day is a display of the 6 Series in both E63/64 and F12/13 formats.

In addition to this nostalgic trip time, BMW is featuring design classes, held by three renowned design and art schools, with a focus on dissecting the heritage and analyzing historical styles of automotive design.

The exhibition at the BMW museum will run from the 28th October 2011 through to the end of September 2012.
