Because one turbocharged V8-engined SUV in these times of economic woe is just not enough...
What you see below is BMW’s official video footage of the new 2009 BMW X6 M testing at the Ascari race circuit in Spain. It's the sister car to the X5 M we watched in December 2008, and both will make their worldwide debuts are expected at the Shanghai auto show in April 2009.
The cars that killed the M3 CSL, sadly. Under new M Division boss Ludwig Willisch, the CSL was reportedly cancelled and the hotted-up X5 and X6 approved – because they will make more profit.
So rather than a 400bhp-plus screaming 4.0-litre V8, we’ll get a pair of whopping great big SUVs powered by a twin-turbo 4.4-litre V8 with 500bhp-plus.
In this new BMW video issued today, Bernd Limmer from M GmbH talks us around the X6 M, comfirming the sequentially turbocharged engine, four-wheel drive (with a new rear-wheel bias) and the Dynamic Performance Control system that will send torque left or right to make the X6 less prone to understeer and more stable in corners. ‘We enhance the trust in the car,’ says Limmer. 'Trying to get more performance.'
We don't know whether to laugh or cry...
