BMW releases M Performance accessories for 2014 X5
Tue, 03 Dec 2013
BMW has debuted a choice of M Performance parts for its 2014 X5 SAV -- that would be Sports Activity Vehicle as BMW prefers to call it. M Performance falls between the entry-level M-sport trim line, and the M cars themselves. With M Performance parts, owners can tailor the look of their cars with factory supplied exterior and interior trim and parts, in addition to performance modifications.
BMW's offerings for the 2014 X5 xDrive35i include, first and foremost, the M Performance Power Kit which provides an extra 20 hp via a modified engine control unit, taking the horsepower output from 306 hp to 326hp. The Power Kit does not affect fuel consumption, and is a relatively straightforward upgrade that can be installed by a BMW dealer. BMW also offers the M Performance silencer system for the 2014 BMW xDrive35i, with tailpipe trim elements available both in chrome and carbon. An M Performance braking system with calipers painted in BMW's signature blue color will also be available, as will 21-inch BMW M Performance alloy wheels in a two-tone finish -- perhaps the most noticeable exterior upgrade.

A black decorative grid for the BMW kidney grille is offered.
BMW hasn't forgotten about exterior accents, as the X5 owners will now have the option of tweaking the appearance of the front fascia by opting for the black decorative grid for the BMW kidney grille, in addition to a front splitter. Mirror caps made out of carbon fiber will also be available, as will air ducting elements and a diffuser insert for the rear apron. And it's no secret that most of these M Performance offerings are visual upgrades.

Sport wheels and painted brake calipers round out the visual tweaks.
On the inside, owners will be able to select a new BMW M Performance sports steering wheel with a red central marking, a carbon fiber top for the gear lever, and steel surfaces for the pedals and the driver footrest. Floormats and side sill foils with M Performance inscription round out the interior M Performance options in the X5. As with previous M Performance packages, these are available for order directly from BMW, and can be installed by the dealer.
