Bahrain Grand Prix: Vettel takes pole
Sat, 21 Apr 2012Bahrain Grand Prix 2012 - Vettel on pole
Sebastian Vettel puts his Red Bull on pole position for tomorrow’s F1 Grand Prix in Bahrain – the first Red Bull poll of 2012.
After two years of Red Bull dominance in F1 – in particular by world champion Sebastian Vettel – the 2012 F1 season has been a bit of a shambles so far for the Red Bulls – certainly by their usual standards.
But it looks like we may be back to business as normal in Bahrain with a pole position for Red Bull by Sebastian Vettel with team mate Mark Webber right behind him on the grid in third place.
Alongside Vettel on teh front row is Lewis Hamilton in the McLaren and alongside Webber in fourth is the McLaren of Button. The sort of grid we’ve found familiar over the last year or two.
Last week’s Mercedes stars faded a little with Rosberg in fifth place and poor old Schumacher down in 18th place after he was knocked out of qualifying on the last lap of the session by Heikki Kovalainen.
Mercedes appeared to think they’d done enough to get Schumacher in to Q2 and were busy fixing his wayward DRS when they ran out of time and Kovalainen struck. But with the form Mercedes showed last week – and assuming Schumacher’s car doesn’t break again – it could be interesting to see him work his way through the field.
The rest of the top ten places on the grid are made up by a remarkable performance from Daniel Ricciardo in the Toro Rosso who starts sixth, Grosjean in the Lotus in 7th, Perez in the Sauber in 8th, Alonso in the Ferrari in 9th (with Massa back in 14th) and Paul di Resta in 10th place.
