Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale Auction, Day 2

Thu, 19 Jan 2012

Day two of the Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale Auction has ended, and our friends at Hagerty have the numbers for us.

The top earner for the day was a resto-mod-style 1948 Chevrolet COE truck that sold for $97,900. After a two-year frame-off restoration, the COE got a rust-free California body applied to a late-model General Motors chassis. It's powered by a 350-cubic-inch engine with a 65-gallon fuel tank and a three-speed automatic. The builder used a tongue and groove red oak bed with a power liftgate for the back end.

In second place at $88,000 was a 1967 Chevrolet Camaro RS convertible restored to original GM specifications. The 327 is a high-output 275 hp V8 that is date-code correct, mated to a M20 four-speed transmission. The factory-correct butternut-yellow paint also has the distinct black bumblebee nose stripe.

The third-highest seller was a Ford Fairlane Thunderbolt that crossed the block for $82,500.

Aside from the front-disc-brake system, this car was built to original specifications, right down to the disclaimer sticker on the glovebox and the 95-pound bus battery in the trunk. This recreation comes in at a value price compared with an original Thunderbolt--$150,000 versus $300,000.

Just two days into the auction, total sales come in at $11.6 million dollars, with a 100 percent sell-through rate of 406 lots. Despite these figures, remember that the auction is still two days away from seeing the high-dollar items that will cross the block this weekend.
