Barrett-Jackson sells Cobra Jet prototype for $200,000

A 2014 Ford Mustang Cobra Jet Prototype sold for $200,000 at the Barrett-Jackson Las Vegas sale. Proceeds from the charity sale will benefit the National Multiple Sclerosis Society. That price is more than $100,000 over sticker for the Cobra Jet, which usually retails for $97,990.
The 2014 Ford Cobra Jet gets the company's 5.0-liter V8 with a 2.9-liter Whipple supercharger and heads ported with a CNC mill. It has a lightened body is optimized for weight distribution, electric power steering, rollcage, Recaro FIA race seats and a Ford Racing suspension prepped for NHRA Stock or Super Stock. Ford will only build 50 examples.
The anonymous bidder is now an honorary member of Team Mustang, according to Ford, which includes all-access passes to the Ford Product Development Center, Ford Studios and Ford Racing. The winner is also entitled to training at Roy Hill's Drag Racing School in North Carolina; their experience there will be captured for a use in a future Mustang book and documentary and a video of the vehicle build and testing.
“We cannot be more grateful to the entire team at Ford Motor Company for their tireless work for our cause,” said Elana Sullivan, president of the Michigan Chapter of the National MS Society. “Because of the incredible outcome of this auction, we will be able to move even closer to creating a world free of MS.”
This particular Cobra Jet is covered in fiery orange satin and carries a unique serial number of #2014 BJMS CJXX1. It also gets a National Multiple Sclerosis Society logo.
